Mold - mould making
Mold making involve mixing and then pouring a two component liquid silicone rtv rubber over a master model secured inside a suitable container. The rtv silicone rubber sets to make the mold.

Making moulds means that replica castings can be made by filling the mould with concrete, wax, soap, casting resin, chocolate, polyurethane, epoxy or plaster. Candle molds made with rtv silicone rubber can be self supporting unlike the usual latex moulds which need some type of molding to support them.

Making a complex mold - mould
Skin or glove mold Firstly build a jacket of clay or wax about 10mm thick to cover evenly over the model from which the mold is to be made. This can then be encased with plaster or a fiberglass laminated molding to form a rigid structure to support rtv silicone rubber mould. When set the case is removed and the wax jacket is cleaned from the master model. The master is then relocated inside the case which is then filled with rtv silicone rubber. When set the master is removed from the mould which can be support by the molding case during casting. In the long term these moulds are more cost effective than simple block moulds since they use much less rtv silicone rubber to make. However there is a large amount of work involved in making the production tooling or fiberglass mouldings from which the skin molds are made.

NB. Although we take utmost care in handling your artwork prior to moulding, the process of removing your original from the mold usually results in damage to the model.Look at some of the models that we make once they have been painted.
